I picked up this movie at the library a few weeks ago. My typical library routine does not allow much opportunity for close inspection, so at first I had no idea that this was a reference to The Scarlet Letter. Although it is no literary classic, I did enjoy the movie. I will warn you that it is definitely adult fare, but from my position as a former high school teacher, it was fun to watch their take on the rate of gossip spreading through a school – not far off, actually. Emma Stone is a new favorite actress of mine, and I thought she did an excellent job in this role. The idea that saying you DID do something you actually DIDN’T do can cause just as much harm as saying you DIDN’T do something you actually DID was a fun twist. (Sounds confusing, but you will understand if you watch it.) The character that Emma plays is a brainy type who has just read The Scarlett Letter, and uses a few things from the novel to apply to her modern problems.
That’s it – I don’t want to give too much away. To sum up: not a classic, a little raunchy, but fun and funny. Enjoy!

I liked this movie to Jeanette! Interesting perspective, and yes, definite adult movie.

Also, the other day when I asked Hannah if she had read The Scarlet Letter her reply was, “No, but I’ve seen Easy A.”
