Raspberry or Balsamic?

vinaigrette – n.  a small ornamental bottle used for holding smelling salts

Classical Usage:  Nope, Marie St. Clare wasn’t sniffing salad dressing in Chapter 16, although I bet there were more than a few times when her poor husband and abused slaves would have been tempted to give her a good oil and vinegar dousing.

Classically Mad Usage:  From now on, when a server lists the salad options I’m going to double check that they’re not try to give me a fancy excuse for a stinky salt shaker.
