Crime and Punishment Check-in

23 Jul

It’s time for roll-call.  How are you doing with Crime and Punishment?

Are you reading along so speedily that it’s a crime?

Or are you slogging through the text as if it’s a punishment?

Shout out your place in the comments!

I can’t put the disturbing thing down.

Right now I can’t pick the disturbing thing up. Maybe when I get a little farther into the story, I’ll feel the same way. You’ve given me hope.

I’m on chapter 3. I took it with me on vacation this past week. I read a total of 12 pages the whole time. We were tent camping w/ five kids!! Now that we’re home, I’m trying to read for at least one hour a day.

I was on chapter 2 until yesterday when I put in some serious time. An hour a day of C & P? Noble goal.

Got up to Chapter 6 a week or two ago… then put it away so I could read some other books.

I frequently have another book going on the side. I’ve learned I don’t do well reading a WEM book in bed at night, so I save something light to read before going to sleep.

I just started it today. Read chapters 1 and 2. Marmeladov’s pitiful cry of “Lord, Thy kingdom come!” is still ringing in my ears!

I was on chapter 2 up until yesterday. It had been slow going for me. I’m wondering how much Marmeladov’s family will be in the story.

I’m only on chapter 2 as this month I have way more commitments than usual. What would you say is a target date to finish by (give or take a couple weeks)? Obviously I need to pick up speed! <:) Does it get faster once you get into it?

We’re not big deadline people. We’ll just keep checking in with each other. I’m hoping the speed picks up as well. I’m finding all the names rough!

Once you’re further in to the book (or finished), take a peek at Jasper Fforde’s “One of Our Thursdays is Missing.” There is a hysterical scene with 3 C&P characters and their names.

I’ve been reading it aloud to Jerry as we drove across the scenic *sarcastic cough* Indiana/Illinois/Iowa/Nebraska/South Dakota highways over the last two weeks. I was reading at super fast rates for fear that we’d return from vacation to find everyone already finished and calmly sipping bits of vodka while they waited for us to do laundry and catch-up. We got home about an hour ago and I read the last sentences of Part Two as we turned on to our street.

The dirty clothes are another story.

I’m amazed you can read in the car! I’d be ill in two minutes if I tried that!

me too! The only books I can do in the car are family-friendly audio books.

Part II? I’m pretty sure you’re in the lead. Whoa. I’ve really got to pick up the pace now.
      Welcome home! You were missed!
