Well? Where are you?

30 Jul

How is your reading of Crime and Punishment coming?
Have you adjusted to the Russian names?
Has “Rask” committed a crime?

I, Christine, braved a little reading in the car, and now I’m at chapter 3 of Part II.  Dedicated reader that I am (more like–afraid I’m terribly behind), I risked motion-sickness for Dostoyevsky.

It’s time for roll-call, so shout out your place in the comments.

Whah! It’s now Thursday and if I read really quickly tonight, I might make it to part III.

Crazy, I’m at exactly the same place as Jeannette, just starting Part Three Chapter 3.

Ladies, I…I’m just going to come right out with it: I’m nearing the end of Part One.

I lost a whole week while tent camping with our five children. I planned to read a chapter a day and in instead spent nearly every moment procuring food, water, dry shelter, and dry clothes; protecting my kids from sun, mosquitoes, and snakes; protecting our food from raccoons the size of sheep; protecting my bed from dirty feet; engaging in enriching outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking, and volcano-making; taking pictures; nursing the baby in front of a box-fan (and repenting with all my heart for any condescending thoughts I’ve ever had about tribal women along the Equator who wear no clothes); wiping down public toilet seats with Clorox wipes; attempting to procure a shower and a hot cup of coffee for myself; and trying my VERY best to emanate EXTREME joy!

That’s my excuse, but I’m working very hard now to catch up!

You didn’t lose a week–you made delightful memories! And may I say how brave you are to camp with an infant. Before children we were rustic campers, but I refused to tent camp until our youngest was able to walk. So this is me cheering for you!

You are all very gracious and forgiving. I am now in chapter II of Part Two. Today is “clarin up time” because I have 30 people coming to my house for a Bible study tonight! I’m ditching Audible (again). Although I really enjoyed reading along to a narrator who can pronounce the Russian names correctly, I can read much faster on my own.

If any new CCOM followers are unfamiliar with the phrase “clarin’ up time” go here:
