Just say, “Here!”

ROTN Hebdomadal Check-in

It’s roll call time.  Where are you in The Return of the Native?

Have Hardy’s lengthy descriptions caused you to burn out faster than Eustacia’s bonfire?
Or does his carefully crafted prose make your imagination dance much like Grandfer Cantle at a wedding celebration?

Share you place in the comments.

I’m on book 4, chapter 1. It was a slow start for me, but the more I read, the more I’m enjoying it! I do like Hardy’s descriptions.

Book 5, chapter 4. Also enjoying it, but having a hard time finding time to get in the chapters. Adriana – if it weren’t for your group pushing me, I’d probably be much farther behind.

Im still in Book 1 and having a hard time finding time to read right now, but I intend to catch up on my long flight to the west coast on Thursday.

Once you get past Book 1 it’s (mostly) an easier read. There are still some Hardy descriptive moments, but the plot keeps you going.

I agree, Adriana’s synchro-read is pushing me forward, although I didn’t get much read this weekend at all. I’m on Book Fourth Chapter V, and really enjoying the story.

I finished last week, and I am hoping to answer WEM questions this week. I totally enjoyed the plot, and the descriptive writing grew on me. I was just a little disappointed with the ending and looking forward to see how everyone else feels about it.

Jeannette and Christina, I like how you both referred to me as “pushing” you forward!
That’s about the best a person can do when she’s bringing up the rear!
If it wasn’t for all of my awesome WEM friends I would most likely still be stuck on the Pequod! 🙂

I just finished Book Third this afternoon. (59%!!! Whoo-hoo!)

I’m in Book 4, chapter 3 and really enjoying it (though I want to wring a certain character’s neck — one guess who! <: ] ). I wish I could be the matchmaker instead of Hardy. I think Venn, the reddleman, would have made someone a great husband!
