Heart of Darkness Check-In

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

That’s our next book.  Don’t be fooled by the size of the Norton Critical edition featured in the photo.  Heart of Darkness is a brief trip through the Congo.  It’s a little novel, a novella.

I can’t promise how many hebdomadal check-ins we will have, so make the most of this one and chime in with your place in the comments.

It is a challenging read for me. Might be someone “short” but demanding in concentration. One observation by Marlowe that “hit” me – “I don’t like work – no man does – but I like what is in the work – the chance to find yourself.” It does seem that we really don’t know our limits, our strengths, our weaknesses, etc. until we tackle the work (which could be physical or mental)…or for me, right now, could be wrestling with a new position in life. And I think of Paul’s challenge in the scriptures not to grow weary in our well doing.
